Why You Need a Hunting Tent

If you like to hunt, fish, camp, raft or do anything else outdoors, for that matter, then you really should consider buying a hunting tent for your next trip. Now, we know there are plenty of different tents out there, some of which are pretty well priced even, but hear us out: your trip will be 10 times more enjoyable with a hunting tent. Why? Because hunting tents are some of the best and most comfortable tents you can buy. We’re getting ahead of ourselves though. Below, we have a list of 4 reasons why you want a hunting tent for you next outdoor adventure.

Hunting Tents are Roomy

It is no surprise that a hunting tent will give you a lot more room than a standard dome tent that you’d find at the department store. They are easily 2 to 3 times the size, in both floor space and headroom, giving you a lot more room to work with. More space is always better.  Let’s take a look at the benefits of having a roomier tent because the reasons may be more substantial than you might think.

More room for people and gear

The most obvious reason that a bigger tent is better is that they can fit more people. With more space means you can take more of your buddies out with you, or you can at least bring less tents. However, while this is great, the real benefit of extra space has to go to ability to bring in more gear.

Just think about it, if you don’t have enough space in your tent for your gear, you’ll have to set up a whole new tent for it, or leave it in the truck (which is sometimes not possible). In a situation where you don’t have room in the tent, don’t have a second tent, and the truck is a mile or so down the road, you are faced with two terrible options: you can either try and cram all your gear in your tent or you can leave it outside with a covering to protect it from the elements. Both of these options, which can work, put your gear at risk of being damaged. If you had a proper hunting tent, though, then it is less likely to be an issue since you have the added room.

More room to work if things need to be fixed

While we are on the subject of gear, let’s talk about what inevitably happens on every trip: something gets broken— and it always happens at the worst time too. With a hunting tent, though, you won’t have to try and work on your broken gear outside where dirt, water, and grime can creep in and make matters worse, you can simply set up a small table in your tent and instantly have more than adequate work space.

More room for a stove

Another benefit of having more space is that you can also fit a stove inside the tent. We’ll cover this a little more later, but honestly, having a stove in your tent makes a world of difference when the cold comes rolling in. Putting a heater in a normal dome tent is dangerous, but with a hunting tent, it is safe and easy to do.

Hunting Tents are Warmer

Like we said before, hunting tents have plenty of room for a stove, making them 10 times warmer than that of a dome tent. Usually these stoves are wood burning stoves, that way you don’t have to worry about bringing fuel. These stoves will radiate heat throughout the tent while pumping its smoke out a small exhaust pipe through the roof of the tent. However, it isn’t just the stove that makes it warmer, the material it is made of plays a big role as well.

Thanks to the thick polyester walls of your hunting tent, the wind and the rain won’t get to you nearly as much as any other tent. That means you will have no more gusty nights or dripping roofs robbing you of sleep.

Hunting Tents are More Comfortable

As you can probably already tell, the extra space and warmth of a hunting tent equate to greater comfort while out on a trip. You won’t be cramped or cold, and you’ll find yourself getting a much better night’s sleep as well. After a long day of trekking around the wilderness, you will be able to lie down and rest in comfort while you enjoy the still of the night.

Hunting Tents will Last Longer

When you compare a hunting tent to a normal dome tent it is almost certainly going to last longer than its department store counterpart. This is especially true when you are comparing a polyester hunting tent from Elk Mountain Tents to a standard dome tent. The sturdy design of the canvas and frame make our tents superior in every way to a big-box store dome tent and will last significantly longer too. A hunting tent will not tear or rip as easily as other tents, nor will it degrade after only a year or two of moderate to heavy use. Our unique synthetic canvas, in particular, has a significantly higher rip and tear strength than even cotton canvas. In the end, investing in better tent can more economical, saving your wallet for years to come.

There are plenty more reasons why you need a hunting tent for your next outdoor trip, but these are probably the most agreed upon. If you do any more research into the benefits of a hunting tent, you will find that there are many people that are passionate about their hunting tents and can give you mile long lists of reasons why everyone should buy one. But, you never will know for yourself unless you buy one and try it out! Check out our inventory of different canvas hunting tents to see which one would be right for you. Every Family Needs a Canvas Tent

Canvas tents make for happy families. Camping, hunting, and all other outdoor activities are some of the most popular hobbies in the US. They are exciting, they are invigorating, and they are fun, but they wouldn’t be nearly as fun without adequate shelter.

Now, most of you probably find yourselves heading to the local department store to purchase a tent, but that is where you are making a vital mistake– instead of a normal, off the line dome tent you find in the camping aisle, you should be checking out canvas tents.

You may be saying to yourself, “Why do I need a canvas tent? What’s wrong with the one from the department store?” and if that is the case, then you have come to the right place. Here we have listed 7 reasons why you need to buy a canvas tent. Whether you are going camping with the family or hunting deep in the mountains, you’ll find that these canvas tents are what you’ve needed all along.

Canvas Tents are Spacious

There is no doubt that a canvas tent is going to offer you and your family more room than one of those $50 dome tents. After staying a weekend in a dome tent with the whole family, you’ll almost instantly be able to see why a canvas tent is so valuable.

Strictly from a convenience perspective, a more spacious tent means you have more room to fit more people. This means you won’t have to get multiple tents for your next outing, you’ll be able to fit everyone together. Then, of course, there is the fact that you can fit more gear in a canvas tent than in a dome tent. A canvas tent, like one from Elk Mountain Tents, will allow you to bring all your bags, the food, etc. keeping everything contained.

Another great thing about the space in a canvas tent is the fact that there is room for a stove for heating, and some cooking, which makes the canvas tent all the more comfortable.

Canvas Tents are Comfortable

Let’s go back and talk a little more about the heaters you can use in your canvas tent because if there is one thing that really makes a canvas tent special it is being able to warm it. Most people face some sort of cold weather when they go camping, and, if they are in a dome tent, then all they really have to keep themselves warm is their sleeping bag. This isn’t a problem for the canvas tent camper though.

All Elk Mountain tents come with vent holes so campers can set up a stove and combat the chill of the mountains.

Another reason that canvas tents are so comfortable is because they give you enough room to stand up and move around instead of crouching over the whole time.

Canvas Tents are Durable

Camping gear, like everything else, breaks down and gets worn out. This is natural and not usually an issue for people until they realize that they have to keep buying tents every few years, which can get pretty expensive.

A canvas tent, on the other hand, especially a polyester canvas tent, will be more durable and longer lasting than most any other tents. It won’t rip or tear easily and it won’t mold or rot like cotton based canvas will. A polyester canvas tent will take rain, storms, and all other sorts of abuse like a champ for years to come. This will be the tent that you use for a lifetime.

Canvas Tents have Room for More People

Your canvas tent will be the only tent you will have to buy thanks to its size. No matter if you have lots of kids, lots of friends, or a troop of boy scouts, you will find there is no better and more reliable solution than a canvas tent.

Canvas Tents are Cost effective

Thanks to how durable and reliable canvas tents are, they really are cost effective. The budget minded outdoors-man or woman will note that with a larger investment up front (buying a canvas tent) it will save them money in the long run.

Canvas Tents are Versatile

Lastly, there is the canvas tent’s versatility. A canvas tent can be used for a large variety of things– many more than a simple dome tent. This versatility is another reason why canvas tents are so valuable. Maybe you are looking for a temporary guest house, or maybe you need an extra room for an upcoming event. Whatever it is, the size and durability allow you to be creative.

Below we have listed a few different ways people have used their canvas tents, check them out, you may be surprised what you find.

4 Season Canvas Tents

4 Season Canvas Tents

There are so many different tents out there it is hard  to know which one best fits your needs. While there is a host of different products out there, if you want to get the most bang for your buck, then a 4 season wall tent would more than likely be the best option. Here at Elk Mountain Tents, we sell true 4 season wall tents and we believe them to be the most versatile and durable of any tents, 4 season or otherwise. But, what is a 4 season tent, and why do you need one?

Definition of a 4 season tent

A 4 four season tent is, in essence, a tent that you can use all year round. It is a tent that you can use in blistering deserts, freezing snow storms, and everything in between so you can use the tent in more than just a few specific situations.

You can usually find 4 season tents at specialty shops for hunting and camping. Sometimes, however, they aren’t always labeled as 4 season tents. Sometimes you can see them labeled as ‘winter tents’ since they can be used in the winter time. In some instances, there are people that will only use their 4 season tents as winter tents. However,  Elk Mountain Tents are actually to be used in all 4 seasons. This means you can set it up in the snow, in the sand, and anywhere else you want to spend some time.

4 season tents vs. normal tents

So, let’s talk about normal tents for a minute. As you probably know a normal tent is one that is not designed to be used all year round. They may be designed for use in 1, 2, or 3 seasons, but not 4. When looking at multiple season tents, usually, you’ll find that they will only be made for the spring, summer, and fall, but not for winter. This is because of all the special material and time that goes into making a winter tent. So, if are looking for a tent you can use in the winter, you are either going to have to buy a 4 season tent or a tent that is specifically designated for winter camping.

Not to mention, normal tents tend to be, in a lot of cases, not as sturdy as 4 season tents. This means that they will not last as long. So, if you are looking to buy a more sturdy tent for your normal everyday camping use, then a 4 season tent may be the best way to go.

Features of 4 season tents

There are 4 main features that you want in any 4 season tent. These features include warmth, wind proofing, waterproofing, and ventilation.

Warmth

As you can probably figure, if you are going to use a tent in all 4 seasons, you are going to want a tent that is warm. Now, there are many ways that you can make your tent warm, you can have thick walls, you can bring in a stove, and so on. When it comes to Elk Mountain Tents, not only are the walls thick, but you can also bring a stove in. This means that, no matter how cold it gets, you can stay snug and warm inside your tent.

Windproof

The wind can make any camping or hunting trip just a terrible experience. It makes that cold colder, it makes it hard to rest at night, and it can just make everything more difficult than it needs to be. Normal tents will usually only be able to take a low amount of abuse from the wind, but a 4 season tent, especially a 4 season wall tent like the ones we sell, will be able to hold up much better against the wind. Not only is the tent material tougher but the number of extra long extra, extra durable stakes included make them secure in almost any windy situation when properly grounded.

Waterproof

If there is one universal enemy to every hunter or camper, it is precipitation. It seems like no matter where you go or what time of year it is, you have a 50% chance of getting dumped on by snow or rain. So, even if you only plan on using your tent once every year, you are more than likely going to need some sort of waterproofing. 4 season tents are designed for rain. That being said, most people prefer to add extra waterproofing to their tents as well as use a rainfly. Elk Mountain Tents are naturally waterproof and require no additional waterproofing or a rainfly (although both may help protect your tent from natural wear).

Ventilation

Ventilation is key if you want to have a comfortable and safe sleeping arrangement. The great thing about our 4 season tents is that they are made with windows and vents so that you can manipulate the air flow coming through your tent. No matter what kind of weather you are dealing with you can get your tent just right. This also prevents the condensation issues that many people report about the Alaknak. For more information on the ventilation features of Elk Mountain Tents, check out our tent features list!

Benefits of buying a 4 season tent instead of single season tents

As you can probably guess, buying a single season tent means that you are limited to camping or hunting in one season. So, if you want to go camping all year round you need to buy multiple tents, which can get expensive. But, if you invest in a 4 season tent, while it may be a little more of an investment up front, you will save yourself time and money in the long run while also adding much needed storage space. It is an all-around superior option.

Elk Mountain Tents as 4 season tents

As we have mentioned before, Elk Mountain Wall Tents are true 4 season tents. They are built to last you through the spring, summer, fall, and winter. They are perfect for anyone who wants a little home away from home. If you invest in an Elk Mountain 4 season tent you will definitely be making the best decision for yourself and your wallet.
